Thanksgiving day deja'vu
Remember that fun Thanksgiving day at the Rasmussen's with dad and Bob? We will never forget... I got to experience it all again at a fun Hilton birthday party last night. Jed and Jace (who is a lot bigger and stronger than Jed) got into a heated argument about Jan. This is not a subject that should ever be discussed with Jed. He is very protective of his mom. Anyways, Jace was being an idiot as usual and Jed was keeping his cool pretty good until I got involved. Note to self: never get involved in a heated discussion with the Hilton boyz. I started yelling at Jace because he was making me so mad and what happens when I yell at someone? You Rasmussen's will all know the answer... I started to cry. ugh. Jed cannot handle it when I cry and the next thing I know they are wrestling each other in the kitchen with the whole fam damily watching (including our kids) and Jed is yelling at Jace to never do that to his wife again. Oh man. All the men went to break it up and all the women grabbed the kids and got out of there. No one got hurt, physically at least, and now we have uncomfortable holidays to look forward to. great. Why can't I just keep my mouth shut?

DRAMA. Sorry Jaim, thats no fun. So was Jace at all hard for Jed to wrestle? It seems like Jed would waist.
Sorry, but that is HILARITY. I wish I could have seen that.
You haven't seen Jace for a long time. He is like 6'2 and 185? But he's not at all fat - he's a big, tough kid. I think Jed would get thumped (good thing Jed doesn't blog). I'm sure I'll think it's funny someday... I just feel like a big dork today.
Wow - You're right - I haven't seen Jace for a long time. How did that happen? It's weird to me that he's old now.
I'm sorry to laugh. I can understand the trauma. I was totally upset at the Thanksgiving fistfight - I thought they were going to kill each other. I think I was like 15 (and a model Seminary student), so as we were walking away from the fight I said to dad in a crying voice, "You're a real prince of peace!" (NERD ALERT) And he goes, "Aw - shutup!" So much for my religious learning. I thought that was so rude, but now I can see that shutup was exactly the right response.
No that's HILARITY. I was thinking of how funny this all really was after reading your comment- when I was done yelling and started to cry (ugh) I turned to get out of there so everyone wouldn't see me cry and I walked right into the damn dog gate that seperates the room and I couldn't figure out how to open it so I was manhandling it like I always do when I'm super frustrated. Then I realized that Jed and Jace were fighting right next to me but it took me a minute because I was so intent on getting past the dog gate. nerd bait.
I think people are much more dramatic in their 30's - you mellow out alot as you get older. Mand - I think dad would soften a bit now at your response. The shut-up was super rude! I'm glad I didn't hear him say that - I was already super mad about the whole situation.
Oh video clips at the right time would be so good - Jaim crying and fighting the doggie gate - Jed and Jace wrestling - great entertainment. Drama moments become a total joke in later years. It makes for a vivid memory.
I think the principle here is to never lose your temper at social gatherings because people will remember it forever. Sorry about the shut-up Mandi. "You're a real prince of peace" was probably not the right thing to say at that particular moment. However, from a fifteen year old, that was exactly what I should have expected and should have answered in a more mature and thoughtful manner. I'm glad you guys are more mature and closer than the Rasmussen and Hilton brothers. I'm impressed that Jaime is trying to figure out what she could have done to help verses blaming. Very mature.
You guys need to write a "Holidays with the Rasmussens" book for our posterity. I'm running off right now to find out all about this long ago fight between grandpa and the uncle.
That is funny in a "I'm glad it wasn't me" kind of way. I'm assuming Jan wasn't there? I want to hear the whole story. Were you kids freaked like we were?
Mandi, I can't believe you remember saying that. That is HILARIOUS.
