It's not the child with the cell phone that will cause you problems . . . it's the parents of their friends who do NOT have a cell phone that are the problem.
Forget that non-working mom vs. working mom war. That is so yesterday. It is now the parents who give their kid a cell phone vs. parents who don't. Will there ever be peace? Probably not. So, just enjoy it. Stay strong. Do not waiver in your beliefs. We in the club (I only know of me and my sisters) need your strength.
My friend tries to give me grief about it. Her 11-year old daughter wants one so bad and just found out that my girls each have one and keeps begging her parents. Ha. Ha.
I used to (sort of) care and feel like I have to explain & justify, but now I just rub it in. I tell Madisen and Ashby to as well. Fun times.
You will LOVE having Jessie have a cell phone. No matter where my girls are - I can talk to them. They are too young to realize that maybe this isn't such a good thing for them.
Uuuhhh...the mom against it? That would be me. Actually I'm not morally against it, or anything. We a) can't afford it, and b) Maddie never talks on the phone as it is. Her conversations are like a teenage boy's. "Hello? I'll ask. Mom can I play? Yeah I can. OK bye." Today she doesn't feel like playing and is avoiding the phone just like her dear mother. Awhile ago she put up a fuss and begged me for one, but when I reminded her that we have one that she can use anytime she wants and why doesn't she go use it, I think she realized how little she actually uses the phone.
Anyway, Jess is so cute. She looks like she's about 15.
Valerie- your girls are so cute! They love those phones. I think it's a great idea to give the girls a cell phone. We actually didn't get her a cell phone - it's just a phone for her room. We will probably get her a cell phone within the year - if we can get her to keep her conversations under an hour. She is so funny to listen to!
