Demolition Derby

On Monday, Jed and I took the kids to our first demolition derby up in Kamas. I have never been to one of these, but Jed's dad used to DRIVE in one in Heber and they loved it. I don't know about you, but the cars crashing and men fighting and yelling was too much testosterone for me! The people there were VERY interesting. Alot of men with big steroid muscles and surprinsingly, alot of pretty ladies. Except for the "powder puff" race. Those ladies crashing into each other had no "powder" or "puff" in them at all (haha - I'm such a snob!).

This year, they had an award for the most aggressive driver, so apparantly it was alot crazier this year than it has been in the past. We saw cars start on fire, blow radiater caps (I think....) with smoke and putrid smells shooting through the air, men almost getting run over and the coolest - a car completely flipping over. It was hard to get over the shock of it all, but by the end, we were enjoying it and laughing.

Next year, during the week of the 24th, if you are so inclined to experience a culture shock. We HAVE to go to the demolition derby. Next time I'm wearing ear plugs and getting some temporary tatoos for sure.

Gary and I went to one of those at Rocky Mountain Raceways - it was a good time - that sounds a little more intense though. I can TOTALLY imagine Jody doing that. Funny.

That sounds a lot like the monster truck rally a date once took me to. The crowd sounds like the same one I saw at least. Very interesting group.

How did your kids do? Maybe they're ready for fireworks if they can handle that loudness. :) Glad you guys had fun - sounds like a good time.

I'm so excited to all get together in September! Yeehaw!

I love demolition derby's. I have been to a few of them-we have friends that drive in them. It's fun to see all the different people-The last one I went to a car caught on fire and the firemen were running out to go put the fire out and one of the firemen running out there totally triped and fell right on his face. It was so silly to see him try to get back up and go help put the fire out. Man good times, good times. There is going to be another on in Nephi- in September- if I remember correctly. Anyways- they are really intertaining.

My kids were pretty scared at first. Jessie had a little melt down and asked if she could just sit in the bathroom. That was the low point. After that, we laughed and watched without plugging our ears. It was fun.

Melynda - you need to come with us next time. It is fun!

Wow, that sounds like fun! We go to the drag races occasionally, and you are right - ear plugs and tatoos are mandatory!

When we were teenagers my dad took us to the stock car races and to widow maker. It was loud and smells like gas but it was fun. It's a whole nother world, interesting people that's for sure!

I believe we got a patient in the unit from a demolition derby. I wonder if it was from there?

Do you remember going with mom and dad when we were younger? I remember there was a scary couple behind us drinking beer, smoking and saying the F word. They had a little toddler and I wanted to run away with him! I was so appalled that they were parents.

I don't remember that! I must have locked it away and that's why the derby gave me anxiety. hmmm...

I haven't been to one (demolition derby) but your experience kinda reminds me of going to a WWF event on a date with some guy. Everyone was cussing and throwing things. Nuts. My date had told me that seeing the WWF was like a dream come true. We never went out ever again after that.
